Transforming technology: permanent magnet motors

In a context where energy efficiency, emissions reduction and operational optimization are more than objectives - they are requirements - Gente Oil Ecuador sets a new standard in technical sustainability in Block 53.

The incorporation of Baker Hughes' PM Magnefficient™ technology, based on permanent magnet motors (PMM) in electrosubmersible pumping systems, represents a quantum leap in the way we operate the field. It not only responds to today's energy challenge, but turns it into a concrete opportunity for transformation.

Operational challenges with an eye to the future

The field operation faces multiple challenges:

  • Optimize energy consumption
  • Increase pumping efficiency with reduced downtime.
  • Reduce the carbon footprint of each well
  • Speed up installation times in demanding environments.

Overcoming these challenges is not achieved with speeches, but with applied technology, concrete data and strategic decisions.

The Solution: PMM + Lift Prime + VSD Advantage

The joint implementation of three specialized technologies made it possible to address these challenges from a comprehensive perspective:

  • Magnefficient™ (Permanent Magnet Motor - PMM): Reduces the energy consumption of the pumping system by up to 48% compared to conventional induction motors.
  • Lift Prime E8000: High-performance pump that improves efficiency, maximizing system capacity.
  • VSD Advantage: Variable speed drive with feedback control, which adapts energy use according to motor demand.

Measurable results

In the SB14 well in the Singue field, these advances have generated real benefits:

  • 48% less energy consumption (81 KW saved)
  • 72.8% less CO equivalents per year (2.73 x 10 Kg CO eq/year, validated by UNACH Research Department).
  • 135 gallons of diesel saved per day
  • 33% less installation time (from 9 to 6 hours)

Each indicator is a tangible demonstration that sustainability is also built well by well, with high-impact technical decisions.

Ecuadorian Amazon, innovation from the territory

From Block 53, these technologies not only optimize processes: they reduce environmental impact, improve energy efficiency and reinforce the commitment to a cleaner and more responsible operation.

It's not just about producing oil. It's about how we do it. And today, getting it right involves combining experience, innovation and responsibility.

 What's next: scaling change

This is not an isolated pilot. It is part of a broader strategy to incorporate high-performance technologies to replicate this model in other wells in the block, keeping the focus on measurable results and operational sustainability.

Because leading change in the industry means acting with facts, from the field, with technology and with vision.
